Why I Chose OT
In high school, I would volunteer often with children who had disabilities, specifically Down syndrome. I loved working with them and their true happiness for life inspired me. I decided that I wanted to make a difference in these children's lives, which is why I chose the career path of occupational therapy. Before making this decision, I shadowed different careers such as a special education teacher, my mom who was a children's pastor, and an occupational therapist. I quickly fell in love with occupational therapy after shadowing an OT who worked at a Child Development Center and specialized in infants. I did my research and talked to many occupational therapists, and I knew that this would be something that I would love and that I had the necessary qualities (patience, kindness, creativity, flexibility, etc) to be an OT. Although this is true, the experience with the OT at the Child Development Center verified my desire to become an OT.
