The OTPF is the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework. This framework is the summary of constructs and ideas that guide occupational therapists in their practice by creating a structure of performance areas/components in the field. This framework is important to learn about because it increases communication between occupational therapists and allows everyone to "be on the same page" by establishing a common language, guide for evaluation, intervention, etc. The OTPF is the "scope of practice" for occupational therapists.

A role that I hold in my daily life is "wife." This role consists of many occupations, but one of the main occupations is cooking. I generally cook a meal every night when I come home from class and have it ready to go when my husband gets home. This occupation requires the activity of grocery shopping, where I find my cooking supplies and ingredients. After gathering these items, I must perform the tasks of holding a spatula or utensil to stir the ingredients.

An occupation that has remained true overtime is the occupation of dressing. Getting dressed each day is an activity of daily life that people have been doing since the beginning of time. The ability to do this has always been a necessity in our society and will continue to be.
