Internal Locus of Control

Locus of control can be defined as a mindset that someone has and is influenced based on if an individual believes that what happens in life is based on external or internal implications. Someone who has an internal locus of control believes that what they do and how they do it has the greatest impact on their life outcomes and is not solely influenced on "luck" or other outward events. An individual who has an internal locus of control mindset, thinks they have greater control of their life and work hard for certain outcomes.

Based on the Rotter's Locus of Control Scale questionnaire, I have an internal locus of control mindset. I find this statement to be fairly accurate as I see myself as a hard worker and know that I can work hard to get to where I want to be in life. I don't like to blame other events for my misfortunes but know that there is something I can do to change my outcome. I find myself to be a positive thinker and always want to push myself to do better.

Post-Interview Reflection

       After completing my mock interview, I felt like it overall went very well. I did not get flustered and was able to get my point across as well as I had hoped. I remained calm and was able to speak clearly and answer each question to the best of my ability. Prior to the interview, I reviewed each of the articles posted on blackboard in order to adequately prepare myself for whatever questions may be asked. I practiced some of the questions by speaking out loud what I would say in an interview. This helped calm my nerves and made me feel better prepared.       Throughout the interview, the only aspect that went differently than I was expecting was technological difficulties. I have had few interviews over video camera and this one was not without faults. We had internet troubles and at one point I was alone in the breakout room and this made me feel uncomfortable. Leadership

Throughout OT school, my view of leadership has changed a lot. I have never considered myself to be a leader but I have been given many opportunities throughout the past 20 months to demonstrate leadership qualities. We are constantly being put into group projects and I find myself taking on the role of leader when others do not. I definitely have a "situational" leadership personality but that is more than I would have ever said before school. I have taken on a lot more leadership roles in recent months than I have ever before and I am very thankful for those opportunities. It has helped me grow as an individual and as a future OT practitioner.
